A Spark Lit by Science
In 1997, I came across a study by Farrell et al., showing that weak magnetic fields caused severe abnormalities in chick embryos—some strikingly similar to the defect that took my daughter. Those images still haunt me. That research gave me direction. The Hidden Enemy: A Broken System
People ask why this isn’t common knowledge. Why haven’t they heard about these risks from the news, or their school, or their doctor?

In 1996, the telecom industry—through the CTIA and with the help of President Bill Clinton—pushed through the Telecommunications Act, and inside it, Section 704.
This single section made it illegal to challenge wireless tower placement on the basis of health concerns, as long as the tower complies with FCC guidelines. Guidelines written that same year—when the EPA was stripped of its authority to regulate non-ionizing radiation. Since then, the FCC has never meaningfully updated its safety standards.
And because of Section 704, free speech is suppressed. Cities and towns can’t fight dangerous tower placements. Parents can’t speak up at school board meetings. Scientists are ignored. And the media won’t touch it—because telecom dollars flood the ad space and lobby halls.
This isn’t a conspiracy theory. It’s legislative fact.
My Daughter Sits 465 Feet from a Tower
Fast forward to today. I now have a beautiful seven-year-old daughter named Melanie. And every day, she sits 465 feet from a cell tower while attending school. That’s one-third the distance recommended by the BioInitiative Report, which calls for a minimum of 1,500 feet (500 meters) to protect developing children.
I made a promise to my first daughter—and now I see the same threat hovering over my second.
And I can’t even protest that tower on health grounds because of Section 704.
So yes, this fight is personal. But it’s not just mine anymore. It’s yours too.
