In this video, we’ll be looking at how the use of cell phones is being associated with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD.

In a report from the Journal of the American Medical Association, a study was done to determine if frequent use of modern digital media platforms such as social media was associated with the occurrence of ADHD symptoms during adolescence.

The study’s objective was to determine whether the frequency of using digital media among 15- and 16-year-olds without significant ADHD symptoms are associated with the subsequent occurrence of ADHD symptoms during a 24-month follow-up.

Students in 10 Los Angeles, California high schools were recruited. A baseline survey was performed, and 6, 12, 18, and 24-month follow-up surveys were administered.

The study showed that among adolescents followed up over 2 years, there was a statistically significant association between higher frequency of digital media use and subsequent symptoms of ADHD.
