For over 25 years, I’ve dedicated my life to creating technologies that reduce exposure to electromagnetic radiation (EMF) from cell phones. From my early work on the interferometric array antenna, which influenced the FCC’s isotropic rules in the early 2000s, to patents on light communications that pave the way for safer technologies in the 6G era, my mission has always been about making wireless technology safer for everyone.
But as much as I believe in the products RF Safe offers, I need to be brutally honest: accessories alone are not the solution to this growing public health crisis.
The Problem Runs Deeper Than Technology
We are stuck in a system that prioritizes corporate profits over public safety. The FCC guidelines, which are supposed to protect us from wireless radiation, are nearly 30 years old and are based solely on thermal effects—the idea that if a device doesn’t heat tissue, it’s safe. This outdated paradigm ignores decades of research showing non-thermal biological effects, such as oxidative stress, DNA damage, and neurological impacts.
In 2021, the FCC lost a lawsuit brought by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the Environmental Health Trust, which proved in court that these guidelines are obsolete and fail to protect public health. Despite this victory, no meaningful changes have been made.
Adding insult to injury, Section 704 of the 1996 Telecommunications Act, signed into law by Bill Clinton, effectively silences local communities. This law prohibits local governments from opposing cell tower installations based on health concerns, forcing us to live within a regulatory framework built on outdated science.
Why Accessories Are Not Enough
While RF Safe’s accessories can help reduce your personal exposure to radiation, they cannot change the broader system that allows harmful radiation levels to proliferate unchecked. Think of it this way:
- Using accessories is like wearing sunscreen in a world where the ozone layer is disappearing. It offers some protection, but it doesn’t address the root cause of the problem.
- True safety will only come when policy catches up to science, and we adopt guidelines that reflect modern understanding of RF radiation’s risks.
The Path Forward: Changing Policy, Protecting Our Future
The real solution lies in public action and policy reform. To safeguard future generations, we need to demand the following:
- Repeal Section 704 of the Telecommunications Act
- This unconstitutional law strips communities of their right to protect residents from outdated FCC guidelines. Restoring local authority is the first step toward meaningful change.
- Modernize FCC Safety Standards
- The FCC must adopt guidelines that consider non-thermal biological effects. The research is clear: RF radiation affects our cells, brains, and even our DNA in ways that don’t involve heating tissue.
- Hold Corporations and Regulators Accountable
- The telecom industry has long shaped policy to its advantage, often at the expense of public health. We must demand transparency and accountability from both industry and government.
Why Now Is the Time to Act
It has been almost three decades since the 1996 Telecommunications Act was signed. In that time, wireless technology has transformed every aspect of our lives—but the safety standards governing it remain frozen in the past.
This isn’t just about cancer or ADHD or the rising rates of autism. It’s about building a safer world for our children, where we can embrace technology without sacrificing health. It’s about preventing the pain and suffering that will inevitably come if we continue to ignore the science.
What You Can Do
- Educate Yourself and Others
- Learn about the outdated FCC guidelines and the consequences of Section 704. Share this information with your community to raise awareness.
- Support Policy Reform
- Write to your representatives. Demand the repeal of Section 704 and the modernization of FCC safety standards.
- Join the RF Safe Movement
- Support RF Safe’s mission to not only provide protective accessories but also drive the public pressure needed to change policy.
A Call to Action
This is a pivotal moment. For three decades, we’ve been navigating an environment saturated with wireless radiation, guided by safety standards that are scientifically and morally bankrupt. Accessories can offer a layer of protection, but they are not the answer.
The answer lies in collective action—in demanding policy changes that reflect modern science and prioritize public health over corporate interests.
This fight isn’t just mine. It belongs to every parent, teacher, policymaker, and citizen who cares about the future of our children. Together, we can ensure that the next 30 years are defined by progress, safety, and accountability—not by ignorance and inertia.
The time to act is now. Let’s build a safer future for everyone.
